It is best to explore and experience it actively - with a hike on one of the numerous hiking trails, or a bike ride along the varied river landscape or even on the water.
The Moselsteig trail and the Mosel cycle path are two highlights of the region.
With a total length of 365 kilometres, the Moselsteig trail is not only one of the longest, but also one of the most varied, quality long-distance hiking trails in Germany. A wide range of experiences await hikers on each of the 24 legs, each with its own entirely different characteristics: The trail leads through forests, through vineyards, along the banks of the Moselle, or to slopes with magnificent views. You will discover remote spots in nature and then the next day, perhaps you will immerse yourself in history-rich culture. Over and over again, you pass breathtaking views that you will remember for a long time.
The Moselle cycle path is the “queen” of the premium cycle routes in the Moselle region and initially takes you across the border: Because it begins in Thionville, France and ends 275 kilometres further on at Deutsches Eck in Koblenz - of course if you want to climb over 100 metres in altitude, you can also do the tour the other way round. The Moselle cycle path is one of the most popular long-distance routes for cyclists, not only because of the combination of German, French and Luxembourg culture. What makes it really unique is the combination of countless wine estates and world-famous vineyards with ancient sites, historical castles, romantic half-timbered houses and art nouveau elegance: Travelling on the Moselle cycle path is like travelling in time. If you want to take a look from above, there is always the opportunity for an athletic detours, for which you will be well-rewarded with impressive views.
