This cycle route encompasses an impressive cross-section of the landscape from the Rhine Valley, beginning where the Rhine and the Moselle converge in an extended triangle, running over the Hunsrück to the Moselle valley and onwards towards the Eifel. This tour is mildly challenging but offers fantastic views as a reward.

The Rhine-Moselle-Eifel cycle trail is a “cross route” of the highest order: From the foothills of the Eifel across to the Moselle, then onwards towards the Rhine, the route descends from the Eifel heights into the Moselle valley, taking you right up to the steep foothills of the Hunsrück heights, then rapidly down again into the Rhine valley. The landscapes offer a high contrast, taking in extensive views across the Eifel and Hunsrück, steep vineyards on the Moselle and a lovely tributary valley towards the Rhine. The Rhine-Moselle-Eifel cycle trail connects three trails, starting on the Maifeld cycle trail, taking you along the Moselle trail and ending up on the Rhine trail.

Author’s recommendation

Both ascents are suitable only for those with advanced cycling skills. The section from the Maifeld cycle trail into the Moselle valley is suitable for all and is easy to manage.

Turn-by-turn directions

The Rhine-Moselle-Eifel cycle trail starts in Kerben, on the Maifeld trail, and continues towards Minkelfeld. From there, it takes you on towards Lonnig via Oberdorfstraße and towards Kobern-Gondorf via Bergstraße. It continues on over the bridge to the other side of the Moselle, at which point the cycle trail brings you to Dieblich along the Moselle. In Dieblich, the route takes you up the hill and along the “Zum Thiesenhof” road, past the Dieblich-Berg builder’s yards and on to the Moselle cycle trail towards Mariaroth. It then brings you along the “Am Alten Kloster” street to Waldesch on the Rhine cycle trail. It continues through the Mühlen valley towards Rhens, on the “Am Viehtor” street, before taking a right turn onto “Bramleystraße”, then turning left up onto “Hochstraße” and then right onto Langstraße. The trail continues to the banks of the Rhine.
